The challenge

Rising electricity tariffs, high reliance on diesel generators, and the necessity for continuous power placed severe operational and financial strain on De Gift Boerdery’s agricultural operations.

The SSS solution

Specialized Solar Systems installed a large-scale 300 kVA hybrid solar system, combining a 316.8 kWp solar PV array with 300 kWh of LiFePO4 battery storage (240 kWh usable). Powered by two 150 kVA Atess HV HPS hybrid inverters, the solution integrates seamlessly with both the electrical grid and backup diesel generators.

Results and benefits

The system delivers an estimated solar yield of 1,200 kWh/day, securing reliable energy for critical irrigation, cold storage, and daily farming operations. The installation reduces CO2 emissions by an estimated ~3.54 tons annually and achieves an estimated payback period of under 6 years.
