171kVA 96kWp 128kWh AC Coupled Commercial Hybrid Solar Energy System
Specialized Solar Systems commercial specialist Ray Nolan and engineer Gerhard Prinsloo present a highly effective 171kVA AC coupled commercial hybrid solar energy system. This system was created specifically for Bakenskop dairy farm close to Riversdale in the Western Cape. Furthermore, this innovative installation showcases the benefits of a 171kVA AC coupled commercial hybrid solar solution for large-scale agricultural operations.
The unique AC-coupled solar energy system was designed to reduce the dairy’s high electricity costs with solar PV production and LIFEPOâ‚„ storage. In addition, it significantly saves on Eskom’s ‘time of use’ tariff charges by utilizing only the most cost-effective hours for grid use.
The ‘smart’ solar energy system features a 90kWp solar array which provides the energy to reduce the farm daytime power costs (running of irrigation pumps etc). It also charges the batteries for use during the late afternoon milking of the cows. The solar array will produce on average 410kWh per day. Moreover, the solar array is coupled with 3 x 27kVA Fronius 3-phase commercial inverters. The AC coupled is also connected to 6 x 15kVA Victron Quatro inverters-chargers used to charge the storage. The storage capacity is delivered by 2 x 80/64 Freedom Won batteries. This setup gives a total of 128kWh of useable energy.
