Installed system ratings, not live operating measurements.
The challenge
Watsons Baconaries, a major meat-processing facility in George, required a reliable energy solution to maintain continuous refrigeration and production.
Operating within the constraints of an existing heritage building, the business faced rising electricity costs and the need for uninterrupted power to protect its operations.
The SSS solution
Specialized Solar Systems designed and installed a large-scale hybrid solar solution combining a 300 kVA inverter system, 299.7 kWp rooftop solar array and 400 kWh LiFePO₄ battery storage.
The system integrates solar, battery storage and grid electricity to support continuous operations.
Two 187 kVA Empores SmartPro units provide additional power optimisation, including power factor correction, voltage control and harmonic balancing.
Results and benefits
The hybrid installation supports reliable electricity supply for critical refrigeration and production equipment.
Solar generation and battery storage help reduce reliance on grid electricity, while intelligent energy management improves power quality and operational resilience.
The installation demonstrates how renewable energy can address the demanding requirements of a large commercial food-processing facility.
