The South African solar sector has developed meaningful capability in areas such as project development, engineering, installation, structural fabrication, mounting systems, enclosures, cabling and ongoing operations and maintenance.

Industry representatives have also argued that localisation should be approached strategically. Components and services should be selected according to existing domestic capability, available materials, transport requirements and the effect on project affordability.
