Mungo Mills – Grid-Tied Solar System
Mungo Mills at Old Nick Village in Plettenberg Bay installed a 110 kVA Solis grid-tied solar system with a 100 kWp rooftop PV array to lower municipal electricity costs and support its weaving mill, workshops, and retail outlets.

The challenge
High daytime energy consumption and dependency on municipal supply increased operational costs and carbon emissions for Mungo Mills at Old Nick Village. The facility required a large-scale solar energy solution to cut electricity bills and power its active weaving mill and retail operations.
The SSS solution
Specialized Solar Systems installed a 110 kVA Solis grid-tied inverter system paired with a 100 kWp rooftop solar PV array (comprising 250 x 400 W panels). The system features seamless grid-tied integration with Bitou Municipality via 300/5 current transformers (CTs).
Results and benefits
Generating an average of 430 kWh/day, the system delivers a reliable daytime power supply for the weaving mill, workshops, and retail outlets. Excess solar generation offsets broader Old Nick Village electrical loads, reducing overall carbon emissions while achieving an estimated payback period typically under 4 years.
