Schmidtsdrift is a town in Pixley ka Seme District Municipality in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The town is a former army settlement, located 80km west of Kimberley and established in 1990.

Specialized Solar Systems was given the task by the department of agriculture, land reform and rural development of installing two hundred and ten Solar Home Systems in Schmidtsdrift. These home consisted of RDP houses, existing stone home structures, homes on outlying cattle posts as well as homes in the excisting town.

The local unemployed unskilled people of Schmidtsdrift were employed and trained to complete this task. They were given theory traning on alternative energy as well as practical training on installing the Solar Home Systems.

Installation is currently still in process by the Specialized Solar Systems team as well as that of the newly trained local community.
