An incredible solar electrification journey

Through our vision of "Lighting up Africa with renewable energy " and with over 20 000 DC microgrids developed and manufactured by a team of passionate individuals at Specialized Solar Systems, we are only now at the beginning stages of an incredible journey – both humbling and exciting – to bring sustainable, renewable, affordable, off-grid solar energy into some of the estimated 600 million non-electrified homes in Africa [source: World Bank]: fast-tracking job creation, infrastructure, communication, water pumping, education, entertainment, possibilities, hope …and a better standard of living for all.

Having designed and manufactured over 20 000 DC microgrids units which have been installed throughout Africa ranging from simple unmanaged solar systems to sophisticated remotely managed and monitored systems, Specialized Solar Systems has proven solar energy product offerings to fulfil almost any individuals or energy service provider’s energy requirements.

Now that you’ve decided to make the cleaner, greener choice and opt for affordable, renewable Solar Energy, you need to complete a simple 4-step process to get the right system for your needs.

SELECT YOUR MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM

There is one standard DB Box design with four uniquely different management control systems.

A) Each DB Box comes standard with the following items:

  1. IP 65 rated enclosure 
  2. 4 x Fused circuits
  3. Cell Phone charger
  4. Day/night auto sensor
  5. 20 Amp power management and control system. 
  6. Solar panel imput
  7. External battery connections
  8. Digital voltage LED screen
  9. Back up Storage for management

 

OPTIONAL EXTRA: Laptop input

 

 
B) MANAGEMENT CONTROL OPTIONS

Depending on your requirements, the four control management systems caters for the different users.


MODEL 1: Non-Commercial Basic Starter Kit
MODEL 1 has been developed as a baseline model that anyone can purchase wanting to start with a solar power system (no income control options). It can be used for a private home or office use.


MODEL 2: Commercial Timer System

A 30-day timer system designed for sprawling rural areas where residents do not have easy access to pre-paid facilities. There is a monthly timer which is reset by the operator/entrepreneur.


MODEL 3: Commercial Pre-Paid System
This commercial system has a Watt hour control mechanism which works via a robust dongle.  With this system, an E-Spaza hub operator can supply and support 50 – 100 housing units.  (Please see editorials for more information).
 
MODEL 4: Large scale GPRS/Radio Control System
This system makes use of a control room via GPRS and/or radio frequency.  It has been developed as a nationwide solution to the on-going energy crisis and national grid overload.

Download our spreadheet power/product calculaltor and select your desired products and estimate the required daily usage to calculate your power requirements within a 24 hour period. 

Fill in the form by choosing the quantity of products required and estimating the desired hourly usage per day. The resulting calculation will give you a total for daily consumption within a 24 hour period that the appliances that you selected will use. Please save a copy to your computer. POWER AND STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

The third and basically the final step of this processs is derived by the calculated total watt hours usage in a 24 hour period and will point you towards a range of four different levels of power supply where your system will fit in. This step is made up of combinations of photovoltiac solar panels and storage batteries.

LEVEL 1: UP TO 54 WHin a 24HR period

DB Box comes standard with:

  •     20 W  solar panel
  •     DB box has adequate build in storage

 

LEVEL 2: UP TO 145 WH in a 24HR period

DB Box comes standard with:

  •     40 W Solar panel
  •     Additional 288 WH battery storage

 

LEVEL 3: BETWEEN 260 to 320 WH in a 24HR period

DB Box comes standard with:

  •     70 W Solar panel
  •     Additional 1200 WH battery storage

 

LEVEL 3: BETWEEN 260 to 320 WH in a 24HR period

DB Box comes standard with:

  •     235 W Solar panel
  •     Additional 2500 WH battery storage
